Dentures
From conventional complete dentures and partial dentures to implant-supported over dentures, Dr. Patel helps you choose the solution that best fits your lifestyle and budget.
Complete dentures
Complete dentures replace all teeth in one or both arches.
Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. They are ready for placement approximately eight to twelve weeks after extraction.
Immediate dentures are made in advance and positioned as soon as teeth are removed, so you are never without teeth during the healing period. Because bones and gums shrink during healing, immediate dentures require more adjustments and are generally a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
Partial dentures
A removable partial denture or bridge consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base connected by a metal framework. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
A fixed (permanent) bridge replaces one or more teeth by placing crowns on adjacent teeth and attaching artificial teeth. The bridge is then cemented into place β not only filling the space but preventing neighboring teeth from shifting.
A precision partial denture is removable with internal attachments rather than clasps, providing a more natural-looking appliance.
Over dentures (implant-supported)
Over dentures use a series of mini-implants which stabilize your denture, allowing patients to βsnapβ the denture in place for a more secure fit and a more confident experience.
Implant alternatives to dentures
Dental implants can support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture altogether. Contact our office to explore which solution β denture, partial, over denture, or implant-supported restoration β is right for you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between conventional and immediate dentures?
Conventional dentures are made after teeth are removed and gum tissue has begun to heal β typically eight to twelve weeks after extraction. Immediate dentures are pre-made and placed the same day teeth are removed, so you are never without teeth. However, immediate dentures require more adjustments during healing and are usually considered a temporary solution.
What are over dentures?
Over dentures (implant-supported dentures) use a series of mini-implants to stabilize your denture. They 'snap' into place for a more secure fit and a more confident eating and speaking experience compared with traditional removable dentures.
Can implants replace dentures entirely?
Yes. Dental implants can support permanently cemented bridges that eliminate the need for a removable denture, which many patients prefer. Dr. Patel can discuss whether implant-supported fixed restorations are right for you.
