CEREC® and Traditional Crowns
Dr. Patel offers same-day CEREC® CAD/CAM crowns milled in-office in a single visit, plus traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal and gold crowns — the right solution for your situation.
Same-day CEREC® crowns
Dr. Patel offers dental crowns through the use of CEREC® technology — state-of-the-art chairside CAD/CAM dentistry that enables crowns to be designed, milled, and placed in your mouth in a single visit.
The crown is made in our office laboratory using the CEREC® CAD/CAM milling machine to create a precise fit. Dr. Patel will help evaluate whether this is the right crown solution for you.
Benefits of CEREC® crowns:
- No temporary crown or second visit
- Precise digital fit
- Natural-looking ceramic material
- Completed in one appointment
Traditional crowns
Traditional crown options include:
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns fit over teeth and are cemented on to hide misshapen teeth, misalignment, cracks, discoloration, or other imperfections. They look completely natural, decrease physical discomfort, and offer extra support to weak or damaged teeth.
Cosmetic crowns offer all the protection of a crown with a more natural presentation.
Gold crowns are particularly suited to patients with a tight bite or those who clench, because gold more readily endures those conditions.
Dr. Patel will assess your individual situation and propose the best solution for your needs and desired smile.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CEREC® crown and how is it different from a traditional crown?
CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) uses CAD/CAM technology to design and mill a precise ceramic crown in our office in a single appointment. Traditional crowns require two visits and a temporary crown while the permanent one is made in an outside lab.
How long does a same-day CEREC® crown appointment take?
Most same-day crown appointments take two to four hours from start to finish. The time varies depending on how many teeth are being treated and the complexity of your case.
Which type of crown is right for me?
Dr. Patel will assess your bite, jaw strength, and aesthetic goals to recommend the best option. CEREC® ceramic crowns are excellent for most teeth. Gold crowns are preferred for patients who clench or grind, because gold withstands those forces especially well.
